Was Michael Jackson Murdered?

No, probably not. It's just that I have been reading David Aaronovitch's book " Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History" and I wanted to be one of the first to ask the question.

Aaronovitch's book isn't that good, by the way. It's reasonably well-written and the chapter on the conspiracies behind the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is not bad, but in general the book says more about the author than it does about the subject it sets out to tackle. Like much of Aaronovitch's writing, it picks on some fairly easy targets (faked moon landings, 9/11) in order to sneer at anyone who refuses to accept an officially sanctioned version of events, a practice that Aaronovitch refined in his trenchant support for the US and Britain in the approach to the war in Iraq.

Evidence that there was a massive conspiracy to manipulate intelligence in order to engineer a war against Saddam Hussein, which so-called 'muscular liberals' like Aaronovitch once wrote off as the ideas of fantasists, now looks increasingly compelling. We shall see whether the government's shambolic Iraq Inquiry is any more informative than the investigations carried out by Butler or Hutton. But because Aaronovitch appraoches history not as a way of understanding the past but as a way of reinforcing his prejudices, and also because he actually isn't that well read, he is prepared to lump together those who believe that Elvis is alive with those who ask serious questions, for example, about the complexities behind the assassination of John F Kennedy.

Governments do conspire in secret. Sometimes, like the Iran-Contra scandal in the 1980s, we find out. Often hundreds of people keep a secret safe for years - it was not until 1972 that the secret that British intelligence broke the German Enigma machines during the Second World War was finally revealed. To imply therefore that every inquiring mind is a 'conspiracy nut' is unfair and sloppy, but it is, I'm afraid, 'classic' Aaronovitch. I would recommend the amusing "How to write a David Aaronovitch column" for a breakdown of the technique.

NB: my letter to the Times attacking Aaronovitch's description of Jean Charles de Menezes as the "53rd victim of 7/7" can be found here.

I wanted to uncover the truth in this crazy rumor following today’s news. Michael Jackson dying was shock enough. When a celebrity as big as Michael Jackson dies, the world stands still for a moment. Now there is this wild story circling the internet and I have done my part to investigate:
A malicious internet rumor regarding the untimely and shocking death of “the King of Pop” and music icon Michael Jackson was being spread on several gossip websites including those of the National Enquirer and People magazine. The story stated that: Michael Jackson was murdered! There was a claim that a former employee had an anonymous tip about an “inside job” similar to the suspicious death of David Carradine.
This story is about as absurd as telling me that Farrah Fawcett was murdered! Ridiculous. We were trying to find out where this rumor started about the toxic poisoning of superstar Michael Jackson. An inside source that wishes to remain anonymous has told us that a former employee, who is now working as a publicity director for a popular and famous Los Angeles based escort agency called “Diamond Companions. I spoke with a young lady named Jaycee Collins over at www.diamond-companions.com to try to confirm any of this and initially, they gave me the run around. I was put on hold for twenty minutes and then transferred to a voicemail, which was full. I have tried to see if this “unknown source” was any type of escort but I seriously doubt that Michael Jackson was calling an escort agency.
I was then told by my contact that this was not the case and that the person who spread this rumor was only an assistant to one of the private nurses hired by Michael Jackson in the past few months during his recent medical problems. He had been seeing a private doctor as late as yesterday.
So, after doing a bit more snooping around, I was able to talk to another employee at a sister company called “Candy Companions” based in Las Vegas. They also had heard the rumors and allegations about a poisoning death by one of those close to Michael Jackson. I asked where this rumor came from and I was told by Jayden Pierson, a budding porn star in Los Angeles that also does some part time work with Diamond Companions and Candy Companions or www.Candycompanions.com that apparently she was not supposed to address any media inquiries or talk to any news reporters from CNN or the Los Angeles times, which had already reported Michael Jackson’s death as: “Michael Jackson dies of heart failure.” It took several hours to go from unconfirmed death, to a coma, and finally to “Jacko dies of heart attack.”
We tracked down a former bodyguard of Michael Jackson that also worked for his father and he also said he had heard these rumors of foul play in the shocking events of the death of Michael Jackson. Again, I was stone-walled by the management and public relations of this bodyguard agency. The former bodyguards, who are currently employed by Celebrity Bodyguard Services in Beverly Hills, California asked to remain anonymous and “off the record” but I was able to confirm beyond a doubt that they did hear through this same unidentified source, about a conspiracy in the death of Michael Jackson today. I went directly to the website: www.celebritybodyguardservices.com and I found out that this former bodyguard of Michael Jackson was also linked to being the bodyguard for the infamous Phil Spector. We all know that Phil Spector was recently convicted of murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson. So I wanted to know how these people from Celebrity Bodyguard Services and Diamond Companions or Candy Companions have any link or knowledge to this unlikely story of Michael Jackson’s death being a drug overdose, or a lethal injection of a drug to induce a heart attack or some crazy conspiracy about murdering Michael Jackson.
