How many stories appears in the Evening Standard, before they appears in the Newham Recorder?

A lot of local issues don't even get reported in the Newham Recorder.

Most people who are fed up with local affairs and Robin Wales generally leave the area. You can't waste your life on fighting for democracy. This is not for me!

I attended the Mayor question time and some woman councillor was seated along with the public. She was heckling down members of hte public. She was a foul mouthed woman and had no manners. I am surprised her colleagues did not tell her to put a lid in it. And these people represent us?

The Neighbourhood forums are non-existent and if they are running, they only invite a secretive and selected crowd. No public minutes. No contact emails.

I am angry at a lot of things the council is doing. There is no future. Frankly the Olympics has brought in ZERO benefits.

I think I'd put myself in the category of "challenging an over intrusive state" and "people concerned about the precedent (who may also enjoy the Flats but not live near them)". I live just off Green Street but use the Flats every weekend as a place to get some free air and exercise (especially since the cycle accident I had in 2010).

Property values aren't really a consideration for me, although I have no doubt they are for some, but definitely not the majority. My worry is that, having established the precedent of enclosing the Fairground area on Wanstead Flats, it will become a regularly repeated exercise, particularly with a major sporting arena down the road that will always have security issues to contend with. In the long term, the real danger is that this part of the Flats will become 'detached', in the minds of planners, from the rest of the open space around it and therefore ripe for permanent construction work.

With every greater demand for space for building homes, it's just a short step from there to losing Wanstead Flats altogether.

The setting of precedent is disturbing and the campaign could continue around this, but would it be a campaign rather than a "watch".

Apart from that I am less positive,---- it seemed to me that the campaign was a fusion between challengers of the over -intrusive state, the state per se and/or simply the "wrong" sort of Police force (your perspective ? Correct if I am wrong), the "Nothing new in Green/old Red Forest Gate please !" Tendency (who will move on now to opposing the Obsidian Scheme, CPZ's, etc ) , --and people concerned about the precedent (who may also enjoy the Flats but not live near them).

Some of the "Green/Old Red Tendency "also have a covert capitalist interest in opposing anything that might affect their property values, -- but do not vocalise it as such ideas are seen to be neither socialist nor progressive but in truth forever close to their heart and true sentiments.

Any campaign surely needs ONE major objective.

Does/Did this campaign have just one ?

Can it continue based upon the (real) property value motives ?

Unlawful access to police data has been going on since the police were established and the introduction of IT means there is at last a proper audit trail. The dismissals and convictions you quote should be taken as a positive sign that somebody is guarding the guards.

It's not perfect and there will no doubt be those who get away with it as there is in all sectors. However, I feel much happier with the current situation than I did when records were held on a card index system and you had no idea who was looking at the record.

My car was hit by another driver who failed to stop after an accident on the junction of Barking Road (Boyley / Newham Bookshop)

At the traffic light junctions there are no CCTV, which is funny, as that is where you may get a car which jumps the light and hits pedestrians or another car from the other direction.

There are camera before and after the junction on Barking Road but not at the junction itself.

I went to Newham CCTV offices who told me, it is no good. Even though they would have the footage of the other driver further down Barking road. I would need actual footage of the car accident.

It makes me angry, Newham are quick with CCTV parking tickets, but they don't do much to protect against crime.

I hope you get better soon...

I was hit in oct in parliament sq - shunted from behind! Came off but ended up with fractured back and pelvis md such severe PTSD I am having therapy! I will never ever ride in London again- I find sitting in a car or even crossing a road scary now! Not the type of person to be like this but too scary! I hope your shoulder improves it sounds awful! The police were actually lovely but as the case is ongoing can't talk about it but due to the location CCTV was not available to the likes of me and was unlikely to be facing me anyhow! What I find hard is dealing w it as I loved cycling too!

Sorry to hear about your accident, but I have to agree with Coshgirl re the helmet. I was hit by a car in 09 resulting in a broken collar bone and 2 ops. I was back on the bike as soon as I was allowed though. I know that cycling in London isn't wonderful, but it really isn't as dangerous as some people are trying to make out! I can't help but think that all this negativity is doing more harm than good.

Really sorry to hear about your reasons for stopping cycling. There is no justice in this country for vulnerable road users, I'm afraid. It's hardly worth reporting an RTA to the police, as even with witnesses, you're unlikely to get justice in court (as I found out). One thing I must take issue with you however is your comment on cycle helmets. There is absolutely no way a helmet would protect you from a head-on collision with a car. Helmets are tested at low-impact and at speeds of less than 12mph. Unfortunately they are peddled as the universal panacea for cycle injuries and cyclists' road safety - detracting from the real issue which is how to tame the car and create safer environments for cyclists.
